DRAWING COLLAGE
PHOTOGRAPY LIGHT

Turning her studio into a laboratory, Loftus experiments with analogue and digital techniques. Observational drawings are the bedrock of her work; these are then developed into  colour-saturated abstracts, light installations and theatre projections.

Microscope, camera, pigments, graphite and found objects are manipulated to create macro stills on a palimpsest of paper. Her experience as photographer and designer at L. Cornelissen & Son, the world-renowned artists’ colourmen,  informs her investigation into colour science, the properties and availability of pigments (toxic and benign, natural and waste) as she explores human belief systems and our voracious relationship with the elemental world.

Loftus liaises with physicists, doctors, mathematicians, art historians, musicians, writers, dancers and actors.  Seeking to create form from chaos and confusion, she obliquely references religious iconography, neuropsychology, mind-altering drugs and prescription medicine.

Loftus trained at Chelsea School of Art and has exhibited internationally. She lives and works in London.
