Turning her studio into a laboratory, Loftus experiments with analogue and digital techniques. Traditional drawing is the bedrock of her work; these are then developed into  colour-saturated abstracts, light installations and theatre projections. Microscope, camera, pigments, graphite and found objects are manipulated to create macro stills on a palimpsest of paper. Her experience as photographer and designer at L. Cornelissen & Son, the renown colourman,  informs her investigation into the properties of pigments (toxic and benign) as she explores the relationship between human belief systems and the natural world.

Loftus liaises with physicists, mathematicians, art historians, musicians, writers, dancers and actors.  Seeking to create form from chaos, she obliquely references neuropsychology, mind-altering drugs and religious iconography.

Loftus trained at Chelsea School of Art and has exhibited internationally. She lives and works in London.
